Position: Future of Kulchur Interns


Location: New York (remote candidates will be considered)

 

About Us

Contra Mundum Press is a New York-based independent publishing house with a global vision. Since our inception in 2012, we have published translations from over 14 different languages, including several bi- and multilingual books from a variety of genres. In 2020, in we inaugurated our Agrodolce Series, a source of unorthodox books on food. Our vision is informed by a poetics of hospitality. As a purveyor of lone and often forgotten or exiled voices, Contra Mundum serves as a home to world culture, welcoming the voices, and so the lives and experiences, of “foreigners.”


We are seeking a dedicated individual (or several to create a band effort) to join our fold as a Fundraising Intern or Volunteer Assistant.

 

Responsibilities

— Further develop our Future of Kulchur cultural initiative

— Attempt to secure donations or funds from alternative sources, including petitioning businesses or individuals in exchange for tax-deductions

— Utilize grant writing skills when applicable to secure funding from a variety of streams

— Manage and enhance our presence on Patreon & elsewhere

— Contribute to strong written copy for Patreon and translate this into content for social media platforms

— Demonstrate a keen interest in independent literature and the publishing industry

 

Requirements

— Previous experience in grass roots fundraising. Literary-specific grant writing experience is a bonus

— Proficient in utilizing Patreon

— Exceptional writing and research skills

— Familiarity with publishing business models

— Genuine interest in literature, translation, and book publishing

— Fluency in languages other than English is a plus but not required

 

Hours

Very flexible schedule, 1–3 hours weekly depending on the candidate’s interests and availability. Monthly virtual check-ins to update on progress.

 

Location

— Our team is currently based in New York, but we welcome applications from remote candidates.

 

Payment

This is an unpaid position; however, you will have the opportunity to choose three free books from our collection. For university students, college credit may be arranged in coordination with the university. If our goal of 5,000 Patreon subscribers is hit (or some comparable target), remuneration will be offered.
